Abraham & Thakore’s collection explores the developing of a modern design voice while drawing on the rich vocabulary of Indian design. Their WIFW A/W 2010 collection is an interpretation of traditional clothing to create a modern fashion statement for an urban Indian wardrobe. As expected, their collection was an excellent master piece of true craftsmanship with impeccable finishing.

They played with shape and proportion, juxtaposing somewhat unexpected elements. The collection included jamdani silk sari, appliqué cotton and silk choli, silk ikat kurta, short velvet raffia trimmed kurta, silk ikat zouave pants, painted georgette kurta, deconstructed silk kurta, wool pheran, laminated coat with silk sleeves, tissue pants, shantung kurta, block printed silk kurta, quilted silk pants, fibrefill quilted vest-choli and many more interesting ensembles.

Taking a fresh look at decoration in both form and material, the main emphasis of their collection was appliqué work, patchwork, laser cut, ikat and block printing, using very interesting, innovative and unusual motifs like rickshaw, chappals, mango, parrot, mobile phone, umbrella and floral pattern creatively placed over the garments. The main fabric was silk, wool, cotton khadi, velvet, organza and tissue. The colour palette was very basic; the entire collection was in earthy tones including white, black and earthy brown which was very beautifully used in the ensembles.

Overall, the collection was very practical and commercially viable, and was perfect for the urban Indian wardrobe. For such an excellent collection, they received a standing ovation from the audience, and they truly deserved it.
