ANKY, the prêt line by Ankita and Anjana Bhargav, embodied the new culture of street couture. The WIFW A/W 2001 collection evokes a mood of poetic, graphic, casual, couture Walk with Me. The show started with phones ringing in the background, mobile phones were placed on stands on either side of the ramp. A video promoting Spice mobile played on.
The colour palette ranged between pale green, silver blue, pale green, berry purple, wine with strong yet subtle touches of red. Suiting fabrics dominated the range along with heavy satins, knits, georgettes and chiffons. Construction details like layers, asymmetrical hemlines, soft drapes, small pleats created sensual drapes, evoking a refreshing kind of oddness and newness of proportion that proclaims a unique and robust feminity.
There was a play of patterns showcased by puffs, pleats, keyhole, sculpted all in sleeves variations. Styles ranged from shibori dresses, piped dresses, draped dress, high waist skirts, high waist trousers, funnel necklines, sculpted neck embroidered blouses worn with saris. Embroidered flowers in solid colours and hand crochet gave the craft a new dimension.
The show wrapped up with the announcement of actor Sonam Kapoor as the new face of Spice, creating the right mood for fashion and telecom getting together.
